MARIE CARMELI

The beautiful is in nature, and it is encountered under the most diverse forms of reality. Once it is found it belongs to art, or rather to the artist who discovers it.

   ....biography....

Marie Carmeli

Marie Carmeli, born in the Philippines, was raised on art and thus has become: a truly unique, self taught, concentrated, organic artist.  Marie Carmeli’s background runs through the artistic genes from her grandfather, Jose De Ocampo who designed the famous Antipolo Church in the Philippines, to the many uncles, aunts and cousins who are also truly blessed in their artistic skills through fine art, music, and dance.

Marie Carmeli, living anywhere from Sacramento, CA to the Bay Area since she was seven may as well be the poster child for independent, eco-friendly art since she is carving the way locally in Sacramento with her natural approach to fresh, inexpensive urban art.  Marie Carmeli is influenced by the natural rhythm of her environment, whether it is hip-hop, other cultures or her emotions.  Marie Carmeli’s subconscious day-to-day life hauntings and memories as a child also have a huge impact on what she paints.  This young lady is influenced by artists such as Sam Flores, Jason Bua, Eric Bailey and Toofly just to name a few.

“Picking up a crayon or a paintbrush brings

the same feeling of euphoria and a

ticket to a different dimension in

which is controlled by my own emotions”

Marie Carmeli who has been sketching since elementary school and painting professionally for eight years relates her life to music thus giving her paintings an organic/indie feel.  Each name of her work stems from a soul or hip-hop song that she finds endearing in which defines the story in her painting .  Her family’s culture, her life experiences and urban culture are what makes Marie Carmeli which is in turn projected through her art.

She goes so far as to not only paint life on canvases but also to use natural, recycled, vintage or reusable material such as hemp, bamboo and organic textiles, bar stools, window curtains and bedspreads.  She hopes to continue to go green by using organic apparel shirts with her art and other elements such as wood, metal and glass.  Marie Carmeli isn’t ‘going green’ for the hype she does it because she feels as humans we need to be responsible; this is a great way to get a message across to her audience.  Marie Carmeli wants to give her audience a window to her soul and to help them find their own voice by using their own creativity.
